ADSL via PPPoE is not possible with JDS by default. There are several ways to get an internet connection with PPPoE, however :
1.
Use an external modem that can be configured as a router. Many ISPs nowadays provide such modems and this by far is the easiest solution.
2.
Install additional software that enables PPPoE on JDS. Please note that this solution involves installing third party software. Should something go wrong or you encounter errors, Sun Microsystems will not help you solve the issues. Also, in case you need additional information or help with configuring the software, we will redirect you to the software maintainer. You can do this solution at your own risk!
There are many ways to enable PPPoE on JDS. One such solution is to install the Roaring Penguin PPPoE package that can be downloaded from
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/suse/8.1/i386/suse/i586/rp-pppoe-3.5-47.i586.htmlThe actual client package can be downloaded from this link which is at the top of the above page :
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/SuSE-Linux/i386/8.1/suse/i586/rp-pppoe-3.5-47.i586.rpmTo install the package, download it to a known directory on your hard disk. After the download completes, logout from the graphical Desktop and log in as root. Next, open a terminal window by right clicking the Desktop background and selecting "Terminal Window". Next cd to the directory that contains the rp-pppoe-3.5-47.i586.rpm package and install it as follows :
# cd <directory containing rp-pppoe-3.5-47.i586.rpm package>
# rpm -ihv rp-pppoe-3.5-47.i586.rpm
