Screen resolution

Підкажіть будь-ласка, як правильно додати в налаштування додаткову резолюцію монітора (у випадку якщо максимально 1024*768, а треба 1280*1024), для Кубунту. А то сьогодні с убунтою таке накрутив, що і накрилося все :-?

Постав закритий драйвер nVidia і не мороч собі голову.
Буде тобі графічненьке віконце nvidia-settings, де все можна буде наклацати мишкою і зберегти в xorg.conf.

ВАЖЛИВО.
nvidia-settings в мене переписало xorg.conf ПОВНІСТЮ, а не лише секції відеокарти і монітора.
Тому збережіть свій xorg.conf і потім скопіюйте відповідні секції.

То ото ж на убунті я й поставив закритий драйвер, і у тих же настройках від нвідії міняв дещо (бекап xorg зробив до цього), міняв-міняв, нажав примінити, і все зависло, тільки курсор бігав, нічого не подопомогло, довелося вирубати комп. Після того уже графічне середовище не завантажилось, навіть коли повернув бекапнутий xorg.conf. Потім все почистив і поставив кубунту. І не хочеться, щоб знов таке тут зробилось. Тому і питаю раціональної і правильної поради, як це конкретно зробити, щоб не нашкодити системі.

Спеціально погрався з налаштуваннями nvidia-settings.
Нічого не зависло, не поламалося

У мене nVidia NX7600GT (збірка MSI), ubuntu 7.04 у nvidia-settings налаштував розділку 1280*1024 - також ніяких проблем не виникло.

При встановленні, як і в убунті, просить libc. Там я при пошуку пакетів знайшов декілька, що співпадали за іменем і встановив. Тут же - вивело таку кучу  :-/, що я і не знаю, що встанавлювати. Конкретно бібліотеки libc немає.

А.. то це ж діло в g++!  
Ну, хай так - скомпілювалось, встановилось. Але від того не краще. Відкриваю nvidia-settings, видається повідомлення, що я не використовую драйвер X NVIDIA і що потрібно скористатися командою nvidia-xconfig, і перезавантажити ікси. Ну, так я власне і зробив, але результатту від того аж ніякого.  :-/

Якщо я правильно зрозумів, то драйвер для nVidia ви компілили?

Я тут трошки погуглив і надибав таке одну статтю (російською). Ще знайшов інформацію варту уваги на сайті http://help.ubuntu.com

Виходить все так, що 8600 навіть і не згадується у списку відеокарт, які підтримуються убунтою:

В принципі ваше відео має підтримуватися драйвером 100.14.09 і вище.

Driver         "nv""nv" - це open source драйвер, що нормально промальовує 2D графіку. Десь я читав про політику nVidia щодо цього.
"nvidia" (як у пана Сергія Єгорова) - це пропієтарний драйвер, який ви, власне, й намагаєтеся встановити.

Це перше, на що слід звернути увагу
